A recent large-scale competition brings the end of the spring season for Wilsonville’s equestrian team. After year long practices as a team and on the side, competitors came together in a four-day long meet where their skills and hard work were really put to the test.

A senior at Wilsonville High School, Katrina Brisbois, shares her scores and events she participated in. “I competed in the equestrian trail team versatility the first day, hunt seat the second day, and western horsemanship and reining the third day as well as working rancher and team sorting the last day.” With so many events over the course of four days the ordeal was truly great and an important event for all participants. “Although it was a lot of work, I really enjoyed my experience! We finished strong and I ended up placing fourth in trail equestrian and reining!”

Fellow senior Carly Shanklin also competed and gave us the opportunity to get another inside look. As for preparation, the athletes are constantly riding and practicing their skills. “For me personally, getting ready for the meet means bathing two horses, packing the horses feed for the week, cleaning tack, and taking care of everything beforehand.,” Shanklin tells. Receiving two silver metals in IHOR, Working rancher and a bronze metal in hand trail it was a successful meet for Carly as well! “It was a good experience,” Shanklins remarks. “We were honestly so thankful to be able to have a meet in the first place. It was a great season and I had a great time competing one last time with my horses.”

Congratulations to those who participated and placed in the Equestrian meet and good luck in the upcoming season!
