Katelyn LeBlanc defends Samantha Brown, an attacker from Mountainside, during the Cats’ final game of the 2021 season. LeBlanc played primarily defense for the Cats, alongside Bailey Waddell, Lilli Wesse and Lily Gloss.

With winter sports officially done with their preseason games and heading into league games, spring sports are the farthest thing from some athletes’ minds–especially heading into first semester finals. However, for the girls lacrosse team, preseason workouts and conditioning have already begun, and players’ excitement for the spring is already running high.

The Cats only had three players of the 2021 class, meaning an overwhelming majority of their program will be back for the 2022 season. Additionally, the coaches and returning players have been actively recruiting since last spring, resulting in an almost doubled number of girls signed up. In terms of the coaching staff, almost all are back for another year, with the exception of defensive specialist, Joel Quintanna.

It was a lot of fun meeting new people and getting to try something new.

One of the returning players is 11th grade Katelyn LeBlanc, defender for the Cats. She joined the team last year because she had a lot of friends playing, and “They suggested I try playing since there was a small team.” Overall, she depicted a positive experience: “Playing lacrosse was a way for me to get exercise during the COVID shut downs, and it was a lot of fun meeting new people and getting to try something new.” Her absolute favorite part of her first season was being a part of a team and having something to do everyday, and LeBlanc is already looking forward to the upcoming season’s games and playing for the team again.

Make sure to check your schedule once the spring season comes around and support the girls lacrosse program!
