On Saturday January 29th, Wilsonville Wrestling competed against seven other teams (Barlow, Canby, Century, Grant, Newberg, Pendleton / Griswold / Nixyaawii, and Tigard) in the annual Colton Holly Memorial Wrestling Tournament.

Colton Holly was a student at Wilsonville High School and an avid athlete. He was an elite wrestler and had a bright future before unfortunately passing away in July of 2010. He was about to go into junior year. Many of the coaches are still currently coaching wrestling at Wilsonville High School. This tournament serves as a way to honor and remember Colton and the thing he loved most. Sports.

Wilsonville competed well v.s Grant and Century before having to face a tough Pendelton squad who seems to always have a great wrestling program.

“The Colton Holly Tournament was a fun day! Every team was supportive of each other. Even though I couldn’t compete because of an injury, we fought hard and cheered each other on!” said junior Sky Welborn. Senior Hannah Gillas agrees with Welborn adding “ Our Varsity team did really well. We also had some JV guys that filled up some Varsity spots, having really good matches, and giving the other teams a run for their money.”

Overall, 6A Newberg dominated the tournament and walked away with the championship medals.

The Wildcats compete in the District Finals on Saturday, February 12th at Hillsboro High School.
