Last week in Wilsonville Sports, many teams went at it across different sports. They all played hard and represented Wilsonville well! Here’s this weeks recap:

The boys basketball team had a short week as they only faced one opponent. That opponent however, was a top 10 team in 5A, Scappoose. This was a battle of the defenses as neither team really lit it up from the field. “We just dug in and played hard and controlled what we could control.” says Senior Kellen Hartford. “You can never count on shots to fall but you can always count on being tough.” It was a gritty win for the Cats which sealed them as a huge team to beat in the near future leading into playoffs and beyond.

The girls basketball team also had a fairly short week and they also faced Scappoose. The Indians have been super up and down the whole year. But the Cats have really found their rhythm after a tough first few games. And the Scappoose game proved it. They won in dominant fashion 54-22. “Offensively, we knew that they played an extended zone so we made the right adjustments and got open shots. ” says Senior Karina Borgen. “Defensively, we stayed disciplined and kept high pressure.” The Cats, wrapping up league play, are creeping their way back up the rankings in 5A as they ready themselves for a run in the state playoffs.

Wrestling finished off their season with the NWOC District Meet in which they competed against all the other teams in the Northwest Oregon Conference. They concluded a season which was full of ups and downs. Lots of learning and growth. “We had lots of first and second year wrestlers placing at regionals.” Says Sophomore Zarek Nowak. “We all just supported each other and got better at wrestling as a team.” This was a young team that finished off the year on a good note.
