October 24th, this date will be remembered by the nine seniors on the Boys Varsity Soccer Team.

The night started with Roberto Garcia calling over all the seniors to midfield to have them recognized for all their hard-work throughout their 4 years at Wilsonville High School. As the seniors heard their names one by one, they went up and gave their parents flowers and took a quick picture.

The rest of their teammates quickly joined them by running across the field to give hugs and cheers. Andrew Kassab, a senior striker stated, “

This just really shows how close of a team we are this season, everyone is their for each other and want each other  to succeed.

”

After all the excitement, the team rushed back to their bench to prepare for the game. They huddled around Coach Ian Reschke as he told the team the starting lineup. To no one’s surprise, the nine seniors rushed back out on the field followed by Junior Ricardo Rueda and Sophomore Micah Ott to round out the team.“It was sad that it would be the last time we would play together, but I knew it would be a good game,” another Senior, Brandon Kyung said.

The Wildcats really started off the game very well by not letting Milwaukee get the ball out of their half of the field and had amazing chances on goal but all went either to the keeper or just barely wide. But about 20 minutes into the first half, the Mustangs had a poor clearance that went to Juan Pablo Gutierrez left- footed cannon that the ending result ended with the ball in the back ofthe net. “It felt amazing to get my first goal of the season and to see my teammates celebrate with me.”

The score was only 1-0  for a short time because Henry Tellez hit a rocketship from around the 25 yard line that slipped right through the goalies hands. But  Milwaukee didn’t give up and they earned a PK late in the first half and scored. The rest of the half was very competitive and neither team was close to scoring; going into halftime the score was 2-1.

Both teams rushed into their locker rooms to change plans and talk new strategies to make sure their team came out victorious in the match. The Wildcats knew the Mustangs would come out firing in the second half to get the win, which they did. Milwaukie just couldn’t get the ball past senior goalkeeper Oscar Baron.

With around 30 minutes left in the second half, Coach Reschke returned all the seniors back on the field for their last hoorah before their final season as a Wildcat ended. The seniors played very well during this time, connecting a ton of passes and shots on goal. But for most of the seniors, they were subbed out for what would be the last time this would ever happen.

But the scoring sure didn’t end for the Wildcats even after all the subs. Senior Juan Pablo stayed in the game and dribbled passed two defenders and the keeper to pass the ball into the goal. Then right after Henry Tellez got a beautiful through ball from Sophomore Angel Ulloa and banged it in the bottom left corner. Which would make the score 4-1 and this would remain for the rest of the game.

The blaring of the horn sounded, the seniors all looked and knew that their season came to an end and that this was the last time that they would be playing the sport they love at Randall Stadium.
