Coach Guenther fires up the team.

The Wilsonville football team has shown their dominance this season in their pursuit for the play offs.  The Cats have had an outstanding presence in the 5A Northwest Oregon Conference, winning each game by an average of 37.86 points.  So far La Salle has been the highest scoring team, only dropping 20 points, compared to Wilsonvilles 44 points.  After all of this hard work they earned the number one spot in league, making them league champions.  Making this year the second in a row, after they shared it last year with Sandy High School.

They had one preseason game against the very dominant South Medford.  This would be the only team all year that the cats would fall too.  In league they went 7-0.  Now coming up on the playoffs the cats have two guaranteed home games.  The first would be against the Bend Lava Bears.  The team started practice on June 21st, they worked through the heat to build stamina.  This has been very evident in the games, due to the fact that Wilsonville has been running teams out of the stadium and back to the busses.  AJ Burkhead, defensive end for the Cats, believes team bonding has led to most of their success, “We’ve spent so much time together that everyone gets along.  My favorite part of the season was our team bowling trip.”

With 22 seniors on the team any game could be the last time this team plays together, so these boys are leaving everything they have on the field.  They all are hungry for redemption, and a state championship.
