The cheer team prepares to wow the crowd at homecoming.

“Do it, do it, do it, go, go, go!” this is just one of the Wilsonville cheer team’s many engaging game-night chants. Not only do these chants bring energy to the players on the field, but they also engage the student section and parents creating a high-spirited atmosphere. As the cheerleaders run across the track taking formation the crowd’s energy is immediately transformed and the crowd is ready to show their support for their wildcats.

The Wilsonville High School Cheerleading team has worked diligently over the past few years to grow our squad and strengthen our technical expertise. We believe we have been getting better by the minute–improving in all aspects: stunts, tumbling, dance and showmanship. This refinement hasn’t happened overnight.  We have been a “work in progress.” As a team we have dedicated hours through summer camps, team practices and cheer competitions.

This year the team has got an excellent group of tumblers and performers. Tumbling is one the greatest attributes the team has to offer and is what sets these girls apart from others. This team has the most tumbling Wilsonville cheerleading has ever seen. There are over 12 standing tucks, and the majority of team have their back handsprings. In high school cheer talk, that’s a big deal.  Not only has the standard for tumbling gone up, but the entertainment quality of routines and sideline cheering has gone through the roof.

Our coaches deserve a lot of the credit.  They have brought new energy and ideas to liven up our routines and get the fans fired up. The girls love putting on a show and showing off all their stunts and tumbling for the crowds at every game.  Head Coach Jen Stalheim prides herself on how hard this team works. Stalheim says, “ all of these girls give 150% and it shows every time they perform or cheer at games.”

“Do it! Do it! Do it! … that’s what our cheer team shouts not only to fans, but ourselves.  We plan to “Do it! at the state cheer competitions this year.  We plan to win state championships. Although there is tough competition and winning will take a lot of hard work, the girls have accepted the challenge and are ready to put on a heck of show this upcoming competition season. To win a state championship not only requires skill and hard work, but also heavily relies on strong unity.  Until then, you can find us Friday nights standing in front of the student section “going bananas” with the rest of our peers as our Wildcats take down another competitor!
