Senior Megan Eagles hits a forehand in the match against Southridge. Eagles and her doubles partner won this match, assisting the team in an overall win.

Senior night for the WVHS girls tennis team was on Wednesday of this past week. The girls played their last home match against Parkrose, and while they had a close 4-5 loss to the visiting Broncos, spirits at the match were still high.

The crowd overlooking the Wildcat home courts was filled with parents who had come to watch their daughters play one last time, and an appearance was even made by last season’s coach, Kirk Fowler.

This year, the Wildcats had to say goodbye to eight seniors, most of whom had been on the team for several years in a row. This includes both team captains, Megan Eagles and Katya Karlapati.

The consistently-changing nature of a team can be a difficult thing for high school sports teams to manage, especially in tennis when one half of a doubles pair graduates and leaves the other without a partner, but the Wildcats are looking forward to the next year already. “We have had a lot of new people join the team this year, and there are a lot from JV that will be moving up,” commented junior Macy Moore.

Though the team is losing many talented seniors this year, they are determined to come back strong next year.
