Ariel (Annabelle McClelland) and Prince Erik (Noah Hansen) share a romantic moment.

To kick off this year of productions the Drama Department put on The Little Mermaid.  This musical was directed by Jason Katz, he’s been directing here at Wilsonville High since 2004.  The two main characters, Ariel and Prince Eric, were played by sophomores Annabelle McClelland and Noah Hansen respectively.  The play was bursting with colors with scenes above and below water.  The lighting and sound effects made the characters come to life, one character in particular stood out due to his comedic relief.  In front of the audience the play flowed seamlessly, but it took a lot of hard work and dedication to get it this way.  Since there were so many scenes and technical elements in the production it took many people in order for it to all happen.  Katz paid tribute to all the people that made it possible, “You have to integrate the band and the lights to create the illusion of the different worlds in this play.  From beginning to end musicals can be very difficult and so many people stepped up.”  Something that was very unique about the production was that the entire cast was busy the entire time.  The costumes that stood out the most was Ursula and The Mer Sisters.  Ursula included a huge dress and very detailed makeup, involving dramatic eyelashes.

Overall the play was a huge success.  Every showing was either sold out or filled to the brim.  Hopefully the rest of the plays will live up to The Little Mermaid.
