Ashley Lindsay: Learning Specialist

Ms. Lindsay is a learning specialist joining the WVHS team this year. She specialized in understanding the ways in which kids learn, and she helps WVHS students by provide learning strategies, co-teaching in other classrooms, and supporting students in their learning.

“I’m excited to be in a new place, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in a new district and building,” she commented about the move to WVHS.

Ms. Lindsay originally went to school for music education, but after completing her undergrad she decided not to pursue a masters and instead joined a program called Teach for America. Teach for America sends teachers to areas that struggle to get teachers for schools, usually areas with low funding where there is not a strong education system. “I was originally sent to teach English,” Ms, Lindsay said, “but the position they had open was in special education.” Thus began her career as a learning specialist.

Here at Wilsonville she teaches a Success Studio Support class as well as providing support to all the students she works with throughout the day. The goal of the class is to develop skills for being successful in a school environment, including learning, building relationships and communicating. “It works great for me because…I get to really work on the puzzle of ‘how do I support kids?'” she mentioned about her career.

This is Ms. Lindsay’s 18th year of teaching, and her first year at WVHS!
