Wilsonville choir perform at the singing Christmas tree

The end of the calendar year marks a hectic time for our high school’s arts department – preparing for the holidays. Both choir and orchestra here at Wilsonville have been practicing pieces to celebrate the holiday season with the community and our school. These past few weeks, both groups have been busy with performances.

The Wilsonville High School Choir has been active in the community, with performances throughout Wilsonville and Portland. On November 29th, the choir braved the chill and serenaded onlookers at the Wilsonville Community Tree Lighting.

The next day, the Wilsonville Symphonic Choir  performed at the Singing Christmas Tree. The group sung with many other choirs at the Keller, and sang “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Brightest and Best”.They also sang chorus for “peace” and “Joyful Joyful”.  Grace Folske, a sophomore, spoke with me about her experience at the concert. “I loved being apart of the whole performance at the “Keller Singing Christmas Tree” because it really was a performance. Everything was so well planned out, and everyone’s performances were breathtaking. I totally recommend everyone goes to see it every year.”

Orchestra also had a concert on December 6th. Our high schoolers played in the auditorium with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders ,and sounded wonderful. They played “ Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, “Greensleeves” and “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24”. Their performance here at Wilsonville was an exciting preview into what the rest of the year will look like for them.

Choir is preparing for their Winter Concert on December 14th, which is only a week away. Our singers will be ready to perform in the auditorium at 7pm.

Orchestra is looking forward to their Spring Concert on March 19th, next year. They will be playing in the auditorium at 7 pm that night as well.

With all of the upcoming performances from our music departments, make sure you get out to see one. From all the hours of practice, the hard work definitely shows.
