Starting off the season 2-0, the girls basketball team is looking like they have a good chance to make a deep run in state. The lady cats won both games in their jamboree against Madison and Crescent Valley, and both their games in Hermiston against the Hermiston Bulldogs and Evergreen, WA. The Cats have a whole new team compared to last years team, with the transfers Reese Timm, Emily Scanlan and others. There is also new freshman talent that could make an impact this season. Freshman Sydney Burns, Kiera Mcnamee, and Emilia Bishop show promise for the future, as well as the capability to make a difference this year.

The Wildcats are ranked 10 now but that is sure to change throughout the season. Upperclassman returners Cydney Gutridge, Teahan Mcnamee, and Jessica Classen look to provide leadership for the rest of the young team. With only one returning senior, the Wildcats have a very young team. This doesn’t take away from the fact that they are very talented and have lots of discipline despite their shortage of senior leaders. The junior class will step up to help fill this void in the team. And it might end up being for the best. With the juniors stepping up this year and becoming the leaders they need to be, next year will be much easier for the team because leadership roles will already be established. Leadership is something that is unsung, yet is a very important part in a winning team.

Last year the lady cats showed signs that they were capable of winning games, but failed to maintain consistent efforts night by night. They ended the season with an over .500 record at 15-11. This wasn’t enough to land them a spot at Gill Coliseum. They will look to redeem themselves this year with new talent and new motives to bring a state championship to Wilsonville.

This Friday the Lady cats play at home vs Barlow. This is the girls first game at home so try to pack the stand and show your support!
