As the 2022-2023 school year starts we have added new classes at Wilsonville High School, One of those classes added was the Latino Arts and Culture class. This class strives to develop and engage the community in the areas of arts, culture and education.

This week the class has been working on a mural, to pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society. Mrs. Escobar has lead her class to create ideas to make this mural. They brainstormed a bunch of ideas and they combined them all together. They wanted to make something special to embrace Hispanic Heritage Month at Wilsonville High School.

Mrs. Escobar was the one who added this idea for the class to make the mural to celebrate all our diverse groups at Wilsonville High School. She also made murals for Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Trans Awareness Month, and more. Mrs. Escobar said “It’s important for our school to recognize people with different backgrounds and that we celebrate were we all come from.” She wanted to create this experience for everyone to feel welcomed!

The students in the Latino Arts and Culture class had a lot of hard work put into this mural.  Eros Pond, one of the students in the class said, “I think it’s interesting that we all collaborated as a community to represent a demographic that is really important to our school and our community in Oregon. Mia Murray also one of the students in the class added “I 100% agree with Eros, I really like the idea of putting it all together. I liked how the mural turned out.” This mural is in front of Mrs. Escobar room, go check it out!
