The Wilsonville High School band department had their winter concert on Wednesday the 13th. The show is a culmination of all the work that the band students have been doing since the last concert in October. The concert included performances by each of the bands, and a selection of chamber groups. Chamber groups are small groups of instrumentalists that choose, learn, and play the music by themselves. This gives them freedom to play a wide variety of music, and can showcase the creativity and musical ability of select students. The first of the large groups to perform was the Jazz Band. They performed their festival set, music that they had performed a week prior at their league festival, for which they were awarded second place. After the Jazz band were some more chamber groups, including a percussion group. This year the percussion students have their own class, and rehearse separately from the other groups. Their first time playing the music combined together was at the concert. This makes their c

ohesion as a group that much more impressive. Next was the Concert Band, a band primarily composed of Freshmen. They played three songs, including 20 Carols in 2 Minutes, and song that does as advertised, presents many holiday tunes in a short time.  Lastly was the Symphonic Band, the primary competing band at the school. The groups all played fun, upbeat, holiday music along with some more serious academic pieces. The winter concert is always a fun and festive part of the holiday season, and as a musician in the band, it’s great to see such community support.
