Freshman quarterback Brooks Carter makes a throw rolling to his left vs St. Helens. Wilsonville would cruise to a 41-8 win.

Wilsonville’s JV football team is well over halfway through the regular season and they’ve looked like a real threat with a 5-1 record, and some games not being remotely close.

They’ve played an interesting mix of teams. They played 6A Tualatin’s JV team, thrashed Summit’s freshman team 48-0, beat 6A Westview 35-20,  opened their season with a 41-8 win vs 4A St. Helens, and most recently buried Hillsboro 54-0. “You have to take every team like they’re one of the best in the league or state.” said sophomore quarterback Carter Christiansen.

Christiansen isn’t the only quarterback for Wilsonville however, as they’re splitting the snaps under center between him and freshman Brooks Carter. “They are both fantastic young men that are working hard to be the best they can be for the team. They’ll both be ready in the coming years to make positive contributions at the varsity level,” said head coach Matt Humphreys.

The offense has looked very strong to start the year, but the defense has been nothing short of elite, allowing only 10.6 points per game. “On the field we’ve been working on toughness, hustling all the time, strong push on the line, tackling. I give the team props because they’ve improved tenfold from the beginning of the season,” Humphreys commented.

Both sides of the game have an effect on the other, good or bad. “It definitely gives a lot more faith in our offense because we know our defense is going to have our backs no matter what. It gives us the extra cusion to be more aggressive,” said sophomore wide receiver Bronson Watts.

Wilsonville’s next game will be their last game out of conference play on Monday, October 17th at 4:00 PM where they host 6A Southridge, and look to improve their record to 6-1.
