Wilsonville girls basketball has been a consistent winner in 5a for the last decade plus, after a heartbreaking first round loss in the playoffs last year to the eventual state champs (Crescent Valley) Wilsonville could hold their heads high on a great season. After being ranked as one of the worst teams in 5a at one point the girls battled all the way up to the 8th seed and put up a good fight against the eventual champs.

This year it looks like much of the same for the girls, after graduating key contributors such as Karina Borgen, Kam Gibson, and Grace Gatto Wilsonville had some holes to fill going into the season. Then things got worse when fantastic post Zoey Davis transferred to Lakeridge leaving yet another starting spot needed to be replaced.

With all of the lineup turnover head coach Justin Duke will have lots of decisions to make if he wants to lead this team back to the playoffs, the good news for Duke is that he can rely on underclassmen Audrey Counts and Payton Ratcliffe returning. The two Sophomore’s played major rolls in helping lead that Wilsonville team last year.

Wilsonville also returns just one Senior Faith Nashif who will be relied upon heavily to lead a young roster made up of mostly underclassmen (3 Sophomores and 3 Freshman compared to a total of 4 upperclassmen) This Wilsonville team will need things to start clicking quickly if they want to have success. The Wildcats have already played two games this season losing both the first one to South Medford (45-89) and the other to Sheldon (50-58).

With a tough start Wilsonville looks to bounce back on the 9th at Jesuit as they try to notch their first win of the year, we will see how they fare against yet another very good 6a opponent. Wilsonville yet again looks like the underdogs coming into this year it will be interesting to see how much fight the underdogs have in them.
