Heading into a February 13th matchup with Hood River Valley the number 11 ranked Wildcats had just a 10-11 overall record but also boasted a sparkly 8-2 league record. Heading into the last couple weeks of the regular season HRV ranked number 23 and was on the outside of the bracket looking in with a 7-14 overall record.

This game would be a big decider for both teams if they wanted to make a statement and a big push to try to make the playoffs… Wilsonville did just that. Wilsonville started hot scoring the games first 10 points and never looked back. After starting the game on a 10-0 run Wilsonville kept their foot on the gas pedal and proved a point against their inner conference rival.

Wilsonville dominated the duration of the game, led by stud underclassmen Audrey Counts and Gabriella Moultrie. At one point Counts had 6 straight points by herself that helped lead to her grand total of 25. Moultrie followed Counts closely and even though she didn’t shoot the best from the field and had a cold streak early in the second half Moultrie hit multiple dagger 3’s to put the game out of reach for HRV in the third quarter helping her reach 24 points.

Faith Nashif commented on the underclassmen’s performance after the game “They both played great on both sides of the court they are really talented and I am excited to watch them continue to get better”

Maddie Holly commented, “We really stepped up and played at our level and we are really excited to keep showing people what we can do these next couple weeks” about the dominating Wilsonville victory.

Hood River struggled all night on the offensive side, putting up just 32 points, but a bright spot for the Eagles was center Grace Rowan. She finished the night with 10 points and was key to the rebounding success that HRV had throughout the contest.

With the 82-32 victory, Wilsonville improves to .500 overall (11-11) and now can brag about a 9-2 league record. The #11 ranking for Wilsonville should change with such a performance, as for HRV the Eagles playoff hopes look dim as they fall to 7-15 overall and 2-9 in league.

There is excitement in the Wilsonville locker room coming down the last few weeks of the season, as put by Maddie Holly “We all look to continue playing as a team and put ourselves at an advantage heading into the playoffs we are excited”

Wilsonville will travel to Hillsoboro on the 16th as they look to keep performing well against league opponents, HRV’s next matchup comes at home against Parkrose also on the 16th.
