Some road trips can be an hour or two long, and maybe sometimes under an hour. But we all may be familiar with some trips exceeding many more hours than that, such as a trip from Wilsonville to the San Francisco airport.

Long car rides can be tedious for many, especially long road trips or even a drive exceeding a minimum of twenty minutes. Nevertheless, whatever the distance, everyone has at least a similar recurring thought: wishing you could get to that destination more quickly.

Being a passenger or backseat passenger gives you the luxury of avoiding time by looking down at your phone and then the next second you’re at the destination. However, it cannot be the same for the driver, who takes responsibility for controlling the car safely from start to finish and enduring the minutes of travel.

Though there is a simple and enjoyable way to pass the time: listening to music.

Junior Elijah Rasco commented “Music makes the car ride more enjoyable because it helps me focus on something else other than the time and distance.” This feeling is echoed by many Wilsonville students, who find that music offers a much better alternative than quietly staring at the road and being consumed in your thoughts.

In addition to making the car ride more enjoyable, listening to music can also have mental and emotional benefits. Depending on the person and music, listening to your favorite songs can have a positive impact on your mood.

“I always listen to a certain playlist when driving because it just helps pass time and make it more enjoyable,” exclaimed junior Luke Haener. Music is a great way to set the tone for the trip. Whether we’re going on a road trip or just going to school, having a good playlist can make the car ride more fun and exciting.

In essence, listening to music during long car rides can be a simple yet effective way to make the experience more enjoyable and even boost your mood. So next time you’re heading out on a long car ride, consider creating a playlist of your favorite tunes.
