Wear Or Tear

A side-by-side story comparing summer fashion trends students do and don’t want to see this summer.

Summer fashion trends students would like to see

As the weather becomes warmer and warmer, students begin to take their shorts and T-shirts out of storage and turn to the newest summer styles. Summer is a time when many students can have fun and express themselves through summer fashion and trends. However, there are many summer fashion trends that may or may not make a comeback this summer.

Aysha Marin, a sophomore, discussed the different trends she would like to see this summer explaining, “I would like to see more people wear the dad shorts, you know the longer jean shorts because I think they can look super cute if you style them well and they are much better than the super short booty shorts.” As popular as the super short shorts are, Marin believes that the “dad shorts” is a summer fashion trend that could be super cute even when it is extremely hot out.

Sophia Levesque is a junior, and she is in love with the two-piece crochet sets. Levesque explains, “They’re cute and there are so many ways they can be made as well as they’re thin and breathable so it’s perfect for summer!” Levesque goes on to talk about how they can be multifunctional and stylish at the same time, making it the perfect trend for summer. Not only that, but they can have many different styles and patterns that people can buy, or even make themselves.

The summer brings cute new clothes and fun new trends that pretty much everyone has an opinion on. From jean shorts to crochet sets that can be styled in many different ways, there are always cute new styles to look forward to! In addition to the aforementioned styles, there are many cute new fashion trends that students hope will make an appearance this summer as we transition from dreary rain to sweltering sunshine.

Summer fashion trends students would not like to see

As much as students may love summer, they do not, however, love all of the summer fashion choices. Some summer fashion choices aren’t all that, and they should stay in the past.

Abbie Memmott, a junior, explains one summer trend she would not like to see. Memmott explains that “I wouldn’t like to see mesh shirts because they are really itchy and can leave bad tan lines.” Mesh shirts are something that have been popular in the past, and still continue to be seen throughout the summer. However, wearing a mesh shirt isn’t comfortable because it can be extremely scratchy.

Malia Kaleikilo, a sophomore, can’t stand it when every summer the Hawaiian flower shirt trend comes back. Malia announces that “I don’t like it when guys wear Hawaiian print shirts, it comes back every summer and I hate it.” The Hawaiian print shirts are something you see people wearing all the time. However, it isn’t the greatest trend to follow, no matter how popular it is.

Whether it be mesh or Hawaiian print shirts, there are just some summer fashion trends that should stay in the past and not make a comeback.

Mackenzie Small, another sophomore, hopes that the skinny jorts do not make an appearance this summer. Small goes into more detail, explaining that, “I definitely hope I don’t see skinny jorts, specifically the knee-length ones for men because they are so unflattering.” Skinny jorts, especially the ones that are knee length, are something that is uncomplimentary and should not become a popular trend this summer.

As the summer approaches, there are many different outfit trends and choices that should not make an appearance. From mesh shirts to skinny, knee-length jorts to even Hawaiian print shirts, some summer styles should stay in the past.
