On the verge of another round of playoffs, the girls basketball team at Wilsonville High School has been kicking into overdrive. The Wildcats have come out on top of eleven out of their last twelve games with a current seven-game win streak and counting. Wilsonville is on a roll, with no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Lily Scanlon, a senior for the Wildcats, believes it all started when Wilsonville placed second at the Holiday Classic Tournament, making it all the way to the semifinals: “When we took second in the Holiday Classic, it gave us a much-needed boost of confidence.” 

Improvements have been a huge part of this historic run, in the weight room, and on the court. “It’s fun to see the improvements since we know we wouldn’t have been able to make it that far last year,” said Scanlon, “It always starts with winning practices then translating those improvements into the games.”

Wilsonville has a rare opportunity, especially in such a competitive conference, to go undefeated in league play. The Wildcats are currently 7-0 in league play and are on track to keep the streak ongoing. This is a record Wilsonville girls basketball hasn’t seen before and would help Wilsonville’s 6A dreams come even closer to a reality.

Despite the impressive streak, the Wildcats have run over a few potholes along the way. Senior forward Grace Wilson had this to say about the hardships along the way, claiming that the team is “Figuring out how to rotate everybody in and out, then taking that information and experimenting with what works best for the team.”

On the back of this historic season lies the work put in outside of practice, the improvements that every player has put in to accompany the team’s unbreakable synergy. This squad is here to make a statement in the NWOC and they have done nothing less.
