Annoyed drivers coupled with long lines are what the mornings of Wilsonville High School students have looked like recently. Ever since Boeckman Road closed due to new advancements, students have had to change their normal route and take long detours to get to school.

“All I know is what I’ve heard, that they’re building a bridge, and it’s going to be closed for 2-5 years. I’m not sure how correct that is, but it’s the word around,” states Jack Barrett, a senior at Wilsonville.

Jordan DeBolt, a twelfth-grader, shares how she discovered the changes in traffic: “I didn’t even realize the road was closed until one day during lunch. My friend tried to go that way but had to turn around.”

The students who live in the western or southern parts of Wilsonville are most affected by the closing of Boeckman Road. Especially for those who live in Villebois, they have no choice but to drive on SW Wilsonville Road, which has recently been clogged by the hoards of drivers needing to get to school and work at 8 am.

Jack Barrett, who lives in Villebois, describes the challenges brought on by Beockman Road closing: “Having everyone that used to taking Boeckman Road, now on the other one, creates horrible traffic most mornings. Unless you’re really late or really early to school, you’re going to get stuck in it.”

Jordan DeBolt seconds Barrett’s statement: “It does take me a bit longer to get to school because of Boeckman Road being closed. Everyone takes the main road, which creates a lot of traffic.”

As for the lucky students who don’t need to take SW Wilsonville Road to get to school, they have been breezing along without any traffic or long waits at stoplights.

Both groups of students, the students who have been confined to one road and those who don’t have to change their ways of traveling, have no doubt been affected by the lack of Boeckman Road. In good ways and bad ways, the construction has created some change in the lives of Wilsonville High School students.
