Wilsonville cross country dominates at NWOC preview

“Runners to your marks.” With a loud bang, the gun sounds and a sea of runners surge from the start line. In the front of the group, a cluster of blue and white lead the pack. The hot sun beats down on the group as their feet pound on the dry grass, trying to out-stride their competition.

On  September 6th, 2018, Wilsonville’s cross country team traveled to Blue Lake Regional Park in Fairview, Oregon to compete in the league preview meet. The air was full of excitement and nerves as the runners prepared to race their first 5K of the season.   Seven other teams, including Hillsboro, La Salle prep, and Parkrose, were present at the meet. After racing in the grueling heat, Wilsonville won the entire meet, sweeping in all divisions (varsity and junior varsity).

After speaking with head coach David Barkley on how the team looks this upcoming season, he jokingly stated that, “The team looks almost as good as me in short shorts”. We are excited to see more races in the future and wish them luck on their upcoming season!
