Last year’s graduates offer advice to this seniors

As the school year begins, we asked previous graduates what advice they had for this year’s seniors.
Carolina Garcia, who is going to Western Oregon University;  Dustin Garcia, who is attending George Fox University; and Melany Ruiz who is attending Portland Community College each weighed in with their thoughts.

Ashley Martinez-Lucas:  “What did it take to get into the school you wanted to attend?”

Carolina Garcia: “ I had to get a good score on my SATs and a good GPA”.

Dustin Garcia:   “I first applied with accepting the fact that i was not going to get in.  I received a number of scholarships and honor awards the that’s when I started to unconsciously be known.  Since my visit to Fox, I realized that it was the place for me and i knew i had to be there”.

Melany Ruiz:  “ It wasn’t hard getting in because it is a community college but just had to put effort and appling” .

AM-L:  “What was the hardest part when trying to get in?”

CG: “Hardest part of all of this was maintaining good grades while dealing with senioritis.

DG: “Jjust the fact that I didn’t think I would get in.

MR: “ Trying to get good attendance and keeping good grades.”

AM-L:  “What are your tips for this year’s seniors?”

CG:  “This year isn’t a joke.  Apply for as many scholarships as you can. This year is the one that counts the most.”

DG:  “Get work done on time.  The main thing is to be responsible.  That will help you with everything not just school but your everyday life.

MR:  “You should be on top of everything  — attendance, grades — and get along with teachers ask for help and talk to counselor for help.”
