Wilsonville robotics hosts 2018 girls generation competition

Girls only drive team competing in the previous season’s game.

Every year, our robotics team participates in what’s known as girls generation. Two weeks ago for this particular year, our school was given the great opportunity to host Girls Gen. The premise of this competition is to get girls more involved in the robotics environment by making the previous season’s competition limited to girl drive teams only. Sarah Briggler—a four year veteran of Team 1425—discussed.

Sarah tells us about what kind of work she and the team did to prepare for the competition,

“To prepare we had to do multiple training days and sessions to get all the girls on the team up to speed and trained on all of the details of the robot and the game, this is because for girls gen only girls can operate and work on the robot.”

The competition consists of six teams divided into two alliances. Each team pilots their own robot in an attempt to stack enough boxes to score points and win. This competition is the exact same as the competition from the previous season. Sarah reports on how the Girls Gen went for team 1425.

“We didn’t do as well as we have in years past but as far as giving the girls a chance to really get hands on with the robot it was super successful! It was also very fun as competitions always are.”

While our team didn’t do the best, everyone is happy that Robotics works towards a greater outreach as well as having fun out there on the field.

Lastly, Sarah informs us about what Error Code Xero has in store for us before this years robotics season.

“We are actually just starting work on a new robot for an unofficial off-season event as well as prepping to go to California to compete in an event with some of the top teams in the world!”

There’s quite some time till the start of the main season so it’s nice to hear that the team is still trying to be proactive.

Sounds exciting! A lot of great work going down here in our very own robotics program. Everyone here is getting pumped for the new season and can’t wait to see what’s in store.
