The Notre Dame Fire

This past week, one of the most iconic, beautiful and historic buildings in the world, The Notre-Dame, caught fire and was on fire for approximately 3 days, beginning on Monday, April 14. This fire was more than likely caused by “electrical short circuit”, and not an act of arson as suggested by many major news sources.

“The ‘most precious treasures’ – including a centuries old crown of thorns – have been saved as Macron promises rebuild within five years.” Many have decided to financially contribute to the rebuild of the cathedral, and approximately more than 7 million dollars have been contributed to this cause within the last week.

Many are also acknowledging this historic event on social media by posting photos in front of or inside of the building, which has sparked controversy within the social media community about when it is appropriate for people to seem to “care so deeply about a church burning down, but not care about the thousands of other historic landmarks that are destroyed every day.”

Regardless of whether or not you agree with this idea, the burning of The Notre-Dame will be a huge part of this landmark’s incredible history.
