The New Orleans Pelicans win the draft lottery; Zion Williamson presumably will be a Pelican

The prodigy Zion Williamson will be selected by the New Orleans in the NBAs 2019 draft, after the Pelicans prayers were answered and they landed the number one overall pick with only a 6% chance. They have the rights to select Zion in the upcoming draft. New General Manager David Griffin has now won the lottery four times, three with the Cavs where he won a championship and now with the Pelicans. Their chances were slim to win the lottery and some thought comical of the idea.

7 years ago to the day the New Orleans Hornets won the NBA Draft lottery and the rights to select Kentucky Wildcat Anthony Davis. This season though he signed with Klutch sports agency (LeBron James agent) and asked to be traded. The Pelicans were fielding offers but weren’t going to give him away, Davis has a year left on his contract and the Pelicans front office has been making a pitch for him to stay about making positive franchise moves, obviously landing Zion Williamson is a step in the right direction. It turns a rebuild into a retool, no matter what this team will be competitive team next season. Whether its keeping Davis and having a starting lineup of Elfrid Payton, Jrue Holiday, Zion Williamson, Anthony Davis and Julius Randle. Or more likely shipping Davis off and receiving lots of young talent and draft capital. The future for the Pelicans is brought because of the emergence of Zion Williamson in New Orleans
