Getting to know our new principals

Getting+to+know+our+new+principals

“Did you see her Gucci Belt?” Everyone was talking about the new assistant principal on the first day of school. As most students know, we have lots of new staff this school year. Including our new Principal Mrs. Schmidt, and the new assistant principal, Ms. Strohmaier, and yes, some people were surprised to hear we had new principals.

Our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Strohmaier is definitely into fashion saying, “I think dressing professionally is important, but I think you can dress professionally and still kind of have your own kind of flare”’ Not only is she keen on style trends, but she’s also a world traveler. Over the summer she visited Europe, to places like Venice, Italy and Paris, France. One thing Mrs. Strohmaier wants us students at Wilsonville to know is “I want you to feel like you can talk to me”. She spoke on how she wants us to feel like she’s not just here to discipline but to be a sort of advocate or guide, and not that you do something wrong – you get punished or talked at, but instead talked with. “I don’t want it to be that way” she said.

Our new principal Mrs. Schmidt was super kind, funny, and welcoming. She had very all the same views as Ms. Strohmaier and more. She was also willing to answer all of our questions when we went in to meet with her. First to get an overall introduction of who she is we asked her what types of things she likes and what she does in spare time. She loves walking her dogs, cooking, and hanging with friends. She also really loves hiking. Some of her favorite places to go is to the gorge and Aneroid lake but she has hiked many different places. Another thing she loves to do (that I think most of us like to do) is to go to concerts. She really likes small concerts, mostly with singer/songwriter situations kind of like local artists. She really enjoys reading in her spare time, mostly her favorite is historical fiction type books but also really loves books that have very in depth characters that are easy to connect with. Also something super important to her is spending time with her family. She has a 15 & 17 year old who she likes to spend time going to timbers games, on hikes, and travel with.

For anyone who feels like they need to talk with someone, feel free to go and introduce yourselves and get to know our new principals! Also, if you ever have a craving for Red Vines, Mrs. Schmidt’s got you covered.
