On Friday the 13th, the Wilsonville Wildcats are set to play the Churchill Lancers. The Wildcats, who suffered a tough 40-0 loss against Crater last Friday, are looking to get their first win of the season.

Hopefully this “unlucky” day will show the Wildcats some kindness.

Wilsonville and Churchill are not in the same league – Churchill and Crater are, though – so their loss against Churchill will only count for their overall total.

The Wildcats lost many key players at the end of last year; Nathan Overholt, Trevor Antonson, Caleb Baker, Cooper Mootz, Jonah Gomez, as well as 11 other all-league seniors.

The game on Friday was only one of three home games. Our students turned out to watch the team in their Hawaiian gear. The students, although saddened by the outcome, generally enjoyed the game.

Senior Ryan McCord sat in the front row of the bleachers at the game. “It was tough to see, but despite losing so many seniors last year, students should be excited for the future.” McCord says.

Senior Araxi Martinez cheered on the football team after her soccer game earlier in the day. “Honestly, I’ve had more fun in other games. I don’t know if it’s because they were losing, or if I was too tired from my soccer game that day. I just wasn’t feeling the vibe.”

This Friday, the Wildcats will face the Lancers on their home field. With one game under their belt, hopefully, the team will be ready to face this week’s opponent.  Good luck Wildcats!
