Senior captain & libero Gracie Thompson with Alyson Johnston and Jackie Foltz after Tuesday’s win over La Salle.

On Tuesday night, the Wildcats took on the La Salle Falcons at home in front of a packed crowd. The student section was full and decked out in pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Before the game, senior captain Kennedy Juranek gave a great speech, and the team handed out pink roses to those impacted by or fighting breast cancer.

La Salle always poses a threat, and Wilsonville was looking to stay undefeated and maintain their impressive streak of not giving up a single set in league. The first set was competitive, with a lot of back-and-forth, and many lead changes. Junior Clarissa Klein had an impressive performance and had four aces in the first set. Her powerful serves proved to be too much for the Falcons to handle. Wilsonville won the set 25-18.

The Wildcats carried their momentum into the second set and won 25-16. In the third set, the Falcons went on a run late, but Wilsonville managed to hold onto the lead and come out on top, 25-19.

Senior captain Gracie Thompson was thrilled by her team’s performance in such a big game. “This victory gives us confidence, but we’re going to have to stay humble and work hard. We can’t use this as an excuse,” Thompson mentioned that while this win means a lot for the team, they’re going to need to keep working hard to reach their goals.

And this season, they have lofty goals. Thompson mentioned that a state championship is definitely in the back of everyone’s mind, but they need to focus each week and take the season one game at a time. Every victory is important, but one over La Salle always feels a little sweeter. “A win over La Salle always means a lot because it brings the team together and the community together.” Said Thompson.

If the crowd size of Tuesday night’s contest is any proof, this statement holds true. The student section was triple the normal size, and there were chants ringing out all night. Senior Sydney Byun is an avid volleyball fan, and she was impressed with the turnout and the performance. “Our team is really good, and I love watching them play. Clarissa Klein had a great night, and I always enjoy watching Gracie [Thompson] and Lindsey [Hartford].”

With this win, the Cats move to 10-0 in league and 12-0 on the season. Currently ranked #2 by OSAA, they have a tournament coming up this weekend at Liberty High School. Come out and support our extremely talented volleyball team!
