The Wilsonville Girls Soccer team had their first league game this past Wednesday in Scappoose.

Senior Renee Lee scored Wilsonville’s first goal of the night, sending them into halftime with a tied score of 1-1.

But come second half, Wilsonville outplayed Scappoose. Striker Lindsey Antonson knocked in two goals to put the Wildcats ahead 3-1. Antonson played hard all game, even with Scappoose trying to double or triple team her.

Scappoose ended up scoring again, but the Indians were not able to catch up. The game ended with a final score of 3-2.

Sophomore Karina Borgen is a defensive midfielder for the Wildcats and had a few thoughts about the game. Borgen felt that the game was closer than it should have been because, “We struggled to adjust to the grass, and we got stuck in the way that they played–instead of playing our game.”

Borgen also commented that it was because of her team’s drive and motivation that they were able to pull out the win in the end. She elaborated on her team specifically, saying that with their passion and devotion they stood a solid chance at winning the League Championships.

With sights high, the Wildcats’ next opponent, Milwaukie, will act as a stepping stone to help propel Wilsonville further through the ranks, and would help maintain their spotless league record.
