This week Wilsonville High School is hosting both the PSAT and the SAT. It took place on October 16 at 8:30am. All Sophomores are required to take the PSAT, the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test which is a practice version for the SAT. It’s roughly a 2 hour and 45 minute test that evaluates students’ skills in reading, writing and math. Students can use the results of their PSAT to help determine how much extra practice and preparation they will need when taking the official SAT.

The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college and provides colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all students applications. Over 2.22 million high school graduates in 2019 took the SAT at least once. The fee ranges between 50 and 100 dollars in the US. A student’s knowledge will be tested in each of the following subjects: Writing, Critical reading, and mathematics. It takes most students roughly 3 hours to finish the test without the essay and 3 hours plus 50 minutes with the essay. A number of seniors at Wilsonville High School are taking their last SAT before early applications happen on November 1st.

Giselle Dodrill, a junior at Wilsonville high school, took the psat on October 16. “I thought the psat was boring and a waste of my time, but I know that it will help me prepare for the SAT. I believe that I did well on the reading portion, but the math portion I don’t feel completely confident in my performance.” She also mentioned that she feels more prepared for the actual SAT and she’s ready to take on the challenge.

Emma Kaleikilo, a senior at WHS, took the SAT on October 16. “I took the SAT earlier in the year and I wasn’t completely satisfied with my score, So I decided to take it for the second time. For preparation for the SAT, I decided to get myself a tutor to help me with some techniques on how to study. Going into the SAT on October 16, I felt way more confident than the first time.” Some advise Emma Mentioned was to actually study and be prepared, instead of just showing up.
