On Saturday our boys soccer team faced the La Salle Falcons in the state championship at Hillsboro Stadium. The Wildcats and Falcons battled the entire game and the ‘Cats eventually ended up falling 2-1. Sophomore center back Joey Friedman scored the only goal for the Wildcats with a header off a cross from Eliab Bautista in the closing seconds. 

When asked how he felt the team played, senior defender Daniel Espinoza said he thought that they played their hearts out and played until the last minute. 

The Falcons started off the scoring in the first half and had all of the momentum heading into the second half. However, the Wildcats came out into the second half with a better mindset. 

Senior midfielder Sam Blohn said that they were not scared at all and came out with an attacking mindset in the second half. The Wildcats did make many more chances in the second half, but the Falcons held on and closed out the game.  

This game was the culmination of an amazing season for our boys soccer team in which saw them go on a deep playoff run. The highlight of the run was the penalty kicks victory over Ashland after the five hour car ride. 

The success of the wildcats was partly due to the senior leadership by the four year varsity players Sam Blohn, Ryan McCord, and Angel Ulloa. Thanks to the seniors it was a great year for the boys soccer program.
