Abby Maoz swims the 50-yard breaststroke in the 200 medley relay. Maoz has broken many state records during her high school career.

The new swim season is reigning in a couple of new faces this year. Coaches Brett and Jared are bringing fresh knowledge to the swimming community here at Wilsonville, and many people are excited for the new era.

Varsity swimmer Kayla Leon-Guerrero is happy to report she is thrilled to have the new additions to the team. “Jared is a good coach who brings a lot of insight to the team, and he knows a lot about swimming.” Leon-Guerrero was sad to see the previous coach Bonnie Robbins go, but she is optimistic about this new season.

Similarly, sophomore Zaqueo Lopez is currently enjoying this winter sport, and he reported that his favorite style is the 50-yard freestyle. “I think they [the new coaches] are really good” Lopez reports, “because last year when I started swim it was something very new and I had a hard time learning, but this year they are very helpful.” Lopez is also looking forward to all this season has in store.

These swimmers just finished their first meet of the season yesterday December 5th, and all swimmers were proud of their events.
