Boys wildcats basketball suffer rare defeat

Boy’s Wildcat Basketball lose to West Linn 71-58.

Wilsonville Basketball had their first game of the year vs crosstown rivals West Linn. West Linn had a 1-1 record going into the game. The Lions were coming off of a last second lost to Roosevelt prior to this game, and they were fired up to not lose another one. The West Linn Gym was filled with a giant sea of white and blue that helped create a thrilling environment throughout the game. The Wildcats played in the first quarter like a team that had no experience in the young season. The Cats committed eight turnovers in just the first quarter and 30 turnovers over the course of the game.  This put the Wildcats in a difficult situation, however, they were able to stay in the game thanks to the wildcats suffocating defense. Dakota and Gabe carried the offensive load with their respective 26 and 14 points. The Wildcats were down 2 at half, and with a strong third quarter that ended with Dakota draining a deep three, the wildcats were up 49-47. The Wildcats offense struggled in the fourth however, as Dakota started missing his shots and West Linn were finally able to get their offense rolling. This led to West Linn able to pull away with the lead and eventually win 71-58. The Wildcats next games will be at the Capital City Classic where they could potentially play Rancho Christian which is a top 25 team in the country.
