Winter sports are almost completely finished, and with that, if the ski racing season ends. Many people don’t know our school has a ski team, but we do. The Wilsonville ski team got third place in our League and the team is going to state in Ashland next week. While the team is very small, they are looking to expand next year and want to get the word out. They train with West Linn and it is a super fun way to wither learn, or improve in ski racing; not to mention, you get to meet other skiers your age. I joined when I was a freshmen and had never ski raced before, and now, I’m going to state with the team and have become a much better skier and racer. The team gives their all in everything they do from training into the night, getting up early on Saturdays to race, and putting all their effort into the sport. Ski racing is a pretty intense sport but the few who can stomach it have so much fun competing in the sport they love. The team is excited for the state and hopes to place well since they are going up against the best teams in the state, but they don’t need to worry too much since they have the two best female racers in the league on the team. Calin Gahan and Kiera Bertell are the best racers in the league, and are about to prove they’re also the best in the state. They work harder than anyone I’ve ever seen in a sport and train year-round. Not only are they incredible, they love what they do and that matters just as much as their talent. The whole team is preparing and training for the race and hope to bring some awards back with them.
