A new club has started at Wilsonville High School: The Book Club. Founded by sophomores Anthea Goh, Macy Moore and Elia Bartlett, the club focuses on discussing different elements of various genres of books.

The three students have been avid readers since primary school and came to the realization earlier this month that Wilsonville High School did not, in fact, have a book club. “We created our club as a place for readers to get together to read and discuss the books we read. We also hoped that it would serve as a way to connect with other students during this time when we don’t get to go to school and interact with each other in person,” Goh explained.

The purpose of the club is to encourage book lovers, and loathers alike, is to encourage students to read more, to expand the range of genres they read, and provide an opportunity for teenagers to connect with peers over a shared interest.

A goal of the club is to attend virtual events put on by authors. While regular field-trips are considered lofty goals, especially for such a new club, if anyone could pull off online “outings” it would be Goh, Moore and Bartlett during this pandemic shut-down.

We also hoped that it would serve as a way to connect with other students during this time when we don’t get to go to school and interact with each other in person.
