Kate’s Christmas movie ranking

Kate Jeffries, Arts Editor

Hi! My name is Kate Jeffries. Christmas movie season is one of my favorite times of the year. Sitting down every weekend and watching a Christmas classic is key to enjoying the holidays! This year especially with the pandemic I have been able to re-watch some classic Christmas movies as well as new ones, so here is my ranking of my top 10 Christmas Movies.

1. The Grinch – Jim Carrey Version

Although this is not the classic Grinch, it is my favorite rendition and my all time favorite Christmas movie. The set, the costume, the actors, and the Christmas joy you get while watching this movie cannot be beat.

2. Home Alone 1

Home Alone is another one of those Christmas movies that I can watch over and over again. I might know the plot by heart but I still love the movie for it’s unique plot!

3. Santa Claus is comin to town

This movie is one of my all time favorite Christmas classic movies. I watched it a lot as a kid, so I have a lot of nostalgic memories and these movies have songs! Plus, the songs are all fantastic and I wish that they would play on the radio.

4. Elf

Elf is a great Christmas movie that again brings joy every time I watch it. I am putting it in fourth place frankly because I like the ones above it more.

5. Rudolph the Red Nosed reindeer

This movie holds a lot of nostalgia for me as well . It was one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid and Rudolph has always been my favorite Christmas character.

6. The Santa Clause 1

I watched this movie a lot as a kid and I loved it then. I still like it now however not as much because I have realized that the plot is pretty weird. But I have to give it props because without it, The Santa Clause 3 would not be possible and I love that movie.

7. Frosty the Snowman

Although I love Frosty the snowman it falls lower on my list because I personally was never racing to watch it. Although it was a movie I watched when I was a kid, I feel like the plot is pretty boring and it is just a Christmas Classic.

8. Charlie Brown Christmas

Although I don’t think this is a bad movie I just don’t think it is very interesting. I have watched this movie multiple times and yet I can not tell you the plot. But it does have a sick song so that is why it is not last.

9. A Christmas Story

I know that this is a Christmas Classic for most families but it just never has been for mine. I am familiar with parts of the movie but it is never a movie I am waiting to watch all year.

10. Polar Express

Personally I do not like the Polar Express and it is for one reason and one reason only: the animations. The animations make this movie so scary to me and as a kid this movie scared me so I also have some trauma attached I think.

Honorable Mention: Barbie Nutcracker

This movie is one that brings back some of my best childhood memories. It made me want to be a ballerina when I was younger, but obviously that didn’t happen. 10/10 Christmas movie!
