Black Friday in a global pandemic

The PS5 dropped online for customers to order but sold out within minutes.

The scene for Black Friday was much different this year than in the past. More people took to online shopping than the usual waiting in lines for the best deals of the year. The number of people going out to shop dropped dramatically from the years past.

A student here at Wilsonville, Gus Ericson, took to this idea and found ways to not only get the best deals, but make some money out of it as well. Ericson went online for Black Friday and bought out the new PS5 which had just come out on its sale price. He bought 32 of one of the most wanted Christmas gifts of 2020.

Using his knowledge of supply and demand he began to resell these hard to find PS5’s to family and friends. I talked to Ericson and he answered a few questions I had for him about his process and how he got this idea. Ericson stated, “After hearing about the low stock numbers in GameStop and Fred Meyers across the country, I knew that these would do well on the secondary market due to their limited nature.” After later asking him about how sales have been going, he told me that virtually all were sold within a week.

Though Black Friday was much different this year, several made the best of what was given, including Gus Ericson.
