Kylie Hadden, Taylor Hadden, and their cousins pose at the “Friends pop up” they visited during winter break last year. Many traditions and plans over the break this year are being cancelled.

With mere days remaining before the long-awaited winter break, students are finding themselves overwhelmed with excitement for the upcoming pause from their digital classes.

In years past students would flock to the airport in an attempt to escape the cold and dreary holiday season in Oregon; however, the pandemic has changed the winter break plans for many. Some students are grabbing their masks to travel, but others are opting for a staycation.

Briggs Moore, a senior at Wilsonville High School, will find himself in Ohio for the break. “I will be competing in a rifle match,” explained Moore, “it’s held at a National Guard training facility on Lake Erie”. In addition to the competition, Moore has an interview with Wheaton college to try and obtain an ROTC scholarship.

While Moore has unique plans, senior Natalie Opager has intentions to spend her break similar to many other high schoolers. “I plan on sleeping,” Opager admitted.

Two weeks free of classes is the perfect opportunity for students to fix their sleep deprivation, and catch up on subjects that they may be behind in. In fact, Moore plans on studying during some parts of his break to ensure that he is prepared for when classes start back up again in January.

Opager and Moore have very different breaks planned, but both intend to spend time with their families during the holidays. Make sure to have a safe and relaxing break!
