After nearly 2 years off, athletes in Wilsonville are back on the track. They kicked off the season in their home stadium on Wednesday April 14th against Milwaukie. Wilsonville JV and Varsity both secured a win over Milwaukie with a combined total of 405 points!

After so much time off, it was expected that the team would have some rust to shake off in order to get back to running those PRs, however some outstanding athletes crushed their previous PRs. Cooper Hiday zoomed through his 100m sprint landing a PR, and ran a 44.4 in his very first 300m hurdle race. Young athlete Kiera Easterly came out of the blocks hot, with a 14.01 second 100, winning the varsity heat. A lot of promising athletes seem to be popping up this season, it should be very exciting to watch! Faith Nashif, sophomore jumper and pole vaulter, says, “We have a lot of work to do in order to get back to where we used to be, but i’m just happy to be back out on the track after so long.” Even though the season doesn’t look like what the athletes are used to, most are just happy to be back out there!

Typically teams have 4 weeks prior to the first official meet, however due to COVID-19, that was reduced by 25%. Coaches have been training the athletes hard, in order to get them back in running shape in just one week! Coach Guenther and Scanlon are coaching sprints and hurdles, Coach Barkley coaching distance, Coach Fink working with the throwers, Coach Aker leading the jumpers, and Coach Eckman on pole vault.

On Wednesday 4/21 the Wilsonville Wildcats take on La Salle prep at Randall Stadium, GO CATS!
