WVHS Sports Recap Week of 11/1
This week in Wilsonville Sports, many teams went at it across different sports. They all played hard and represented Wilsonville well! Here’s this weeks recap:
Boys Soccer won their opening game Wednesday against Eagle Point 3-0. A couple of late goals extended their lead, eventually ending in a Wildcats W. They continue their playoff run on Saturday at a tough North Salem team. As the 5 seed, they play the 4 seed so they’ll have to go on the road to try to advance.
The Girls Soccer team is very good. In their opening round, they mercy-ruled the number 16 team, Willamette, 8-0. In fact, 4 out of their last 6 games have been mercy rule endings in favor of the Cats and they haven’t even given up a goal in their last 8 games, making them the heavy favorites in 5A. They continue their run against Putnam, who they already beat earlier in the season.
Volleyball won a tough matchup against the 2 seed team, North Bend. They then had to bear down for another tough match against Crescent Valley. And they won that one as well. Their first two games of the playoffs were both 3-0 victories, but then Crescent Valley was closer at 3-2. That means they have one game left, the state championship. In this game, they’ll have their toughest test yet, against the number 1 team in 5A, West Albany on Saturday.
The Football boys won their opening round matchup against Churchill 42-14. This was the first game of the year where the Cats actually trailed at one point. The Lancers started fast and got out to a quick 8-0 lead, but the Cats responded making it 8-7. Going into halftime it was 14-7 in favor of Churchill. But what a tale of two halves it was. The Cats completely flipped the script, outscoring Churchill in the second half 35-0, leading to a 42-14 win. They draw Hood River Valley in the next round which should be a great offensive battle.
