Morgan Verkest: Administrative assistant
Morgan Verkest is Wilsonville High School’s new administrative assistant. During the school day, Verkest works at her desk near Elda Bautista, the student services secretary; however, when she’s not working, Verkest is spending time with her five-year-old daughter.
She was even prompted to take the job in the first place because her daughter attends kindergarten in the district, which allows them to have, at least for the most part, the same breaks and days off.
Verkest and her daughter spend a lot of their free time baking–”I hang out with my daughter a lot. We do a lot of baking together…We like baking cakes because then we can decorate them, but during the fall it’s more cookies and pastries.”
“That’s one of my favorite things, and then just playing video games.”
This will be Verkest’s first year as an administrative assistant, but she’s undaunted by the unfamiliar and excited for new experiences. So far, WVHS has proved to be less hectic than her previous jobs, and she admitted that the relaxed environment is one of her favorite parts of it all–though she does find it weird to be on the ‘behind the scenes’ side of high school for the first time.
“I’ve always worked really fast paced jobs, so this is kind of a step back–more relaxed than I’m used to.”
Verkest’s current goal is to put as many names to faces as she can, but in the future she’d love to see what she can do to help beyond the desk.
