“I was about two when I was first introduced to music. My parents were in a band, so I always had musicians in and out of my house. My entire family is made up of music enthusiasts, they were the conduit of my love for music.
I found other people who shared my interests and tastes, and that made up my first band when I was sixteen. We were called the Ventura Knights. It was mainly hardcore emo; my hair was long and we played at dingey dark clubs.
Eventually, I didn’t align with the lifestyle of the community. I opened for Modest Mouse, 311, and some other names. Playing was good for a while, and the community was very chill. It can be fulfilling, but making it a career is incredibly difficult.
I wanted to support a family. I stopped playing and writing the music I wanted to in order to live, going paycheck to paycheck.
Besides music, teaching was also heavy in my family. My great-great-grandpa was an educator, along with my great-grandpa, my grandma, and my dad. I should’ve begun teaching around twenty years ago, but it’s only my sixth year now.
I’m starting to record a solo album in my home studio. Drums, bass, guitar all by myself. I’ve had ideas recorded since I was around fourteen, and now i’m working to unearth and work with those now. It’s nostalgic, and finally feels fulfilling.”
