Wildcats come clawing back against Gresham

Junior Sam Blohn helped the Wildcats secure a tie against Gresham. The team is looking forward to a great season!

On Tuesday night, the boys soccer team was looking like they might pick up their third loss of the season. With five minutes left, they were down 2-0. However, the tide turned quickly as the Wildcats put away two goals in the last moments of the game, ending up with a 2-2 score. Junior Ryan McCord mentioned, “The result was not what we expected, but getting the tie was a good confidence booster.”

The goals came at the hands – or feet – of sophomore Jared Perez and freshman Joseph Friedman. According to junior Elijah Powlison, the goals were the product of hard work and determination. This came after a rough first half, which Powlison describes as “Not our best. We were trying to force opportunities and we were not really playing simple.”

Even with the tie, the team wasn’t completely satisifed. “Next game, we need to be smart with the ball, score first, and keep up the intensity.” Powlison remarked. McCord had a similar statement, saying “We need to score first to build momentum and put teams away early.”

Up next on the schedule for the boys is an away game at Crescent Valley, and then a home game on the 20th against Reynolds. Preseason is coming to an end, and league games start on October 4th. Those games will be the most important for the team, as both players mentioned that their goal for this year is to make playoffs.
