“My sister, Dr. La Joie, has a practice here in town. She’s the chiropractor at Joy Life Chiropractic, and she was living here in the community, so that’s how I came to Wilsonville.
So I have 3 job titles here at the school. One is scheduler, and that’s basically the person that is responsible for scheduling any space here at the high school, and then I’m also event manager. And that’s kind of where I feel like I kind of help the kids to see how you can turn a passion for athletics into a career. And then lastly, coach, which is the most important. So timeline varies by day. Monday and Wednesdays I get the mornings off. So those days I don’t start until the afternoon when I show up for practice, and then if there’s a JV football game or soccer game, I’ll end up staying for that. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, I have office hours. Followed by practice and or a game, and then we have activities on the weekends lots of times as well. When I 1st started, I actually started in soccer 1st as a JV coach, and you know, for me, one of the things that I enjoyed was being able to stay on long enough to see freshmen grow up to be seniors.
I love hearing kids talk about what they’re learning in school. Um, kind of what they’re taking away from that. I also think that there are things that I can learn from the younger generation. Just, you know, life. Things are changing and I want to make sure that I’m kind of keeping up with the trends. All of that leads to being inspired daily, just getting greeted, asking how I am, those little simple things you know, just make me feel like people care about me and I love it.
The things that kind of stand out, fun bus rides, trips that we have taken, some of the excursions, a practice plan that came together well, and the kids had fun. All 3 of my nieces and nephews went here and, you know, watching them grow and be able to do things in their experience. Sierra, the middle one was the 1st time that I got to experience a soccer team playing in the playoffs, and that kind of started this trajectory to then seeing multiple teams make it to the finals. The kids are just getting better and better athletically. So, favorite memory was by far, sorry, it’s a softball memory, but it is going to play at the Jane, which is what they call the stadium where the ducks play softball, and that’s where we got to play the finals the year that Maddie Erickson was pitching for us and then went on to be a D1 pitcher at Michigan. That was definitely by far one of my favorite memories.”
