Wilsonville High School is known for its great athletic program, led by Josh Davis, but its most outstanding sport is football. Wilsonville has been to 3 state championship games in a row, winning 2 of the last 3.
Wilsonville is heading into the playoffs as the number seven team in 5A after destroying McKay 70-0. Wilsonville finished the regular season with 8 wins and 1 loss, losing to the number 1 team in 5A Summit. For round 1, Wilsonville will be playing 10th 10th-ranked Ridgeview at home.
Wilsonville’s Standout senior receiver and defensive back Keona Tam is one of Wilsonville’s biggest threats, leading the team in touchdowns, 2nd on the team for yards per game, and is 3rd for tackles per game. Tam is also one of the biggest threats in the state of Oregon for kick return.
Tam stated, “I believe we have all the talent in the world to win a 3rd straight state championship. We only lost to the summit by very little, and we had a lot of our key players out. If we put the pieces together and work hard, we will win another one.”
Wilsonville is known for its attitude and effort on the field, and its hard work and dedication during the playoffs. That’s what makes this team so good, and Luke Carli, a Wilsonville senior receiver is a pure example of that, leading his team both on and off the field.
Carli quoted, “This team is one of the most disciplined teams in the state, and that’s what’s gonna carry us to make a deep playoff run and hopefully win state. We need to really lock in and focus during these last few practices. If we do that, nobody can stop us besides us.”
The Wildcats are heading into the playoffs hoping to make another state championship appearance. With players like Tam and Carli, anything is possible. It all comes down to their attitude and effort, and if they can achieve that, they can achieve anything.
