Every year, Wilsonville High School’s Kids Making Miracles club hosts its Holiday Bazaar; an opportunity for small business and school clubs to earn money in a festive atmosphere.
The goal of Kids Making Miracles is to raise money for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. At the Bazaar itself, they got donations, held a raffle, and sold spots in the gym.
Held in our main gym and commons, Wilsonville’s Interact club, Choir, local families and groups, plus a variety of parent volunteers looking to raise money for the end of the year Senior Grad Party.
Angela Black, who, among other things, is a Mom and an incredibly giving part of Wilsonville’s Booster club, baked and helped run the parent’s table. Together, they brought dozens of sweet treats to help raise money for Seniors.
Black states, “So we’re selling lots of baked goods that we brought together as a team. A bunch of different people baked it and donated their items so that we could sell them today, and all the profit goes to graduating seniors.”
“It’s been very successful, and around 15 contributed to baking. Our lemon bars have been the best sellers!”
Another group at the Bazaar was Wilsonville’s Interact club. Juniors Audrey Arndt, Interact Clubs Membership and Recruitment Director, and Natalie Olson, their Social Media Manager, volunteered at the event.
Olson states, “We’re selling candy bags, and also letting kids draw and make buttons.” The money they raise goes towards fighting against human trafficking; a problem that threatens many individuals along I-5.
The high school choir also appeared, singing for the hundreds of people that funneled through the commons. Performing a variety of holiday songs, they sang beautifully for the crowd and spread festive cheer.
This event is always a wonderful opportunity for community integration; combining the efforts of our students to gain exposure and financial help towards their clubs, while also allowing small businesses a place to sell their products.
