The Grammy Awards 2026: let’s talk about them. From interesting outfits to politically loaded statements, this event spiked controversy and connection amongst many attendees and viewers.
Social media’s push for self-expression manifests heavily in a wear-what-you-want mindset – notedly appearing in celebrities Chappell Roan and Justin Bieber’s attire; or lack of attire.
Roan’s decision to show off a sheer dress held up by only body piercings certainly caused a strong media response. Some fans praised Roan for her inspirational and striking outfit, while others were more tentative to hop on board.
It seemed as though Bieber and Chappell might’ve collaborated, as Bieber also rocked showing off his skin. He shocked his fans with his choice of blue silk boxers as his performance outfit.
Really though, what were these two performers trying to convey with their risky choices?
Junior Sadie Larkin reports,
“Justin Bieber’s outfit was really interesting, and I think the fact that the stage was super simple and also his outfit, it like put a bigger emphasis or focus on just the music itself which I thought was really cool.”
Or, could these fits be a means of protest? Protest sure was a big theme of the night.
Stars are known to utilize the Grammys to reflect on recent events and make a statement. Last year, stars focused the night on fundraising for Los Angeles wildfire relief to aid those who were affected by the devastating natural disaster.
This year, stars protested U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement by wearing ICE-OUT pins or delivering on stage statements against ice.
Eilish infamously stated, “No one is illegal on stolen land. We need to keep fighting and speaking up. Our voices do matter,” urging continued activism.
So, what do you think? Do you think that the Grammys are a viable place to test the limits of shock-factor fashion and speak out about politics?
The Grammy Awards are certainly a guaranteed night under a spotlight – what’s a better way to be heard?
