Wearing jewelry is one of the most common ways people can express themselves. It’s simple, and can bring a drastic change to an individual’s outfit.
Whether it be a pair of dainty earrings, or a more complex look, students’ at Wilsonville Highschool use jewelry as a form of self expression to display individuality and personal style.
At Wilsonville, 3 out of 4 female students wear jewelry. Jade Wood, a 9th grader at WVHS explains, “I’ve noticed that almost everyone wears jewelry. Actually, it’s more unusual to see people not wearing jewelry than it is to see people wearing it.”
Jewelry can reflect a signature look. Consistently wearing unique, personal pieces can create a distinct, memorable appearance. As freshman Olivia Arakelian explains, “I definitely have some favorite statement pieces, the majority of which are subtle and dainty.”
She goes on to further elaborate, “I personally prefer smaller jewelry because I don’t have a very loud personality, and I think it reflects that.”
On the contrary, senior Ellie Shimmon states, “I feel like I’m a very expressive person and that jewelry is a way to show it. I like to wear bold statement pieces because each piece shows something different about myself.”
“I would say I typically make a lot of my jewelry, and when I’m doing that, I am usually thinking about how the colors, shapes and metals all connect to me.” Shimmon adds.
She uses specific textures and designs, incorporating many different personal ideas to express herself and embody her emotions through the pieces she creates.
There are numerous different ways jewelry can be expressive. They convey personality, style, and feelings without saying words, providing students with a signature high school look and experience.
