The 2026 girls lacrosse season is quickly approaching opening day. Last season, the Wildcats finished with an overall record of 11-6, showing dominance throughout the course of their season and demonstrating true heart and fight.
Wilsonville entered the playoffs last season ranked eighth in Oregon and secured a win over Hood River Valley before their season ended in a tightly contested battle with No. 1-ranked Jesuit.
This season, Wilsonville is building momentum with a talented group of players focused on teamwork, a fast-paced offense, and a strong push for a successful season, showcasing the overall growth of Wilsonville girls lacrosse across Oregon.
With their first game being up against a very competitive 6A program in Tualatin, Wilsonville is keen to start the season in a strong rhythm, aiming for an opening day win on Wednesday night against a very strong Tualatin side.
Returning junior midfielder Jaelyn Schwein elaborates on the preparation for the start of the season, stating, “We want to set the tone in the right way early in the season, and that means it is important to perform in practices because it replicates in games and how we set the tone early.”
With a very successful attack last season, scoring 187 goals. Wilsonville is keen to keep up the buildup in the midfield with players like Kate Klienke, Finley Blankenship, and Jaelyn Schwein, all having athletic scholarships to play lacrosse, playing huge roles in the Wilsonville midfield and attack this season.
Wilsonville this season prides itself on a positive team environment, having chemistry and supporting one another throughout the season. Junior Zoe Gann points out the significance of team chemistry, pointing out, “Early in the season, it is important to stay on the same page and get connected and comfortable with everyone and their strengths playing compact and together.”
Losing seniors in key roles this season for Wilsonville, especially on the defensive side, players will have to step up in open roles. Schwein points out the significance of players filling roles, stating, “Having a lot of seniors graduate last year, there are roles needing to be filled with smaller numbers. But we promised ourselves and our coaching staff that we will have a strong work ethic every practice and game, pushing each other to get to our end goal, which is winning games.”
At the jamboree last Sunday, Wilsonville emphasized winning the draw from the start to control possession in dangerous areas, with strong communication early and throughout the games.
Wilsonville’s focus early in the season is giving 100 percent effort. The team is committed to helping each other grow while competing hard in the midfield and working to outplay opponents.
Wilsonville’s goal this season is to win by playing as a team, showing strong team spirit, and proving how positive relationships among teammates help win games throughout the season.
As the Wildcats prepare for its first game of the season on Wednesday, the team will continue to fight for each other and for the coaching staff, demonstrating the growth and determination of Wilsonville Girls Lacrosse.
